Stephenie Meyer USA Today Author of the year

Stephenie Meyer has been name Author of the year by USA Today.

Last year, our book of the year was J.K. Rowling’s wonderfully satisfying final Harry Potter title, Deathly Hallows. This year, we’re giving a big shout-out not to one book, but to one author — Stephenie Meyer, queen of the teen vampires.

Stephenie Meyer on Times list of People who mattered

Maybe Americans aren’t ready for a Mormon presidential nominee yet. But they’re more than ready to anoint a Mormon as the best-selling novelist of the year. The hero of Meyer’s Twilight series — and hit movie — is a vampire named Edward who doesn’t kill people and declinesto sleep with, or bite, his girlfriend Bella. Meyer’s religious upbringing taught her something few writers grasp, that fantasies can be about restraint as well as excess. Sometimes nice girls do finish first.—Lev Grossman

We would like to congratulate Stephanie on all her success and thank her for giving us such a wonderful gift in the Twilight Saga.

‘Twilight’ Exclusive: Taylor Lautner Talks About His Campaign To Stay On ‘New Moon”As far as I know, I haven’t been told ‘no’ yet,’ says the young star, who’s put on 19 pounds to play Jacob Black.
By Larry Carroll

BEVERLY HILLS, California — Over the last few weeks “Twilight” Nation has been thrown into disarray, first over the appointment of a new director, Chris Weitz, for the sequel and then by rampant rumors that 16-year-old Taylor Lautner is going to be similarly replaced. (One bright light of the week: We just named Twilighters, collectively, the Woman of 2008.) On Wednesday night, Lautner spoke exclusively with MTV News and insisted that reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

“New Moon” release date.

‘New Moon’ Release Date Set:
Your Next ‘Twilight’ Fix Arrives November 20, 2009.
Days after announcing its new director, Summit announces the sequel will come out exactly a year after ‘Twilight.’

By Gil Kaufman

The body’s not even cold on the first “Twilight” movie, but producers have already hired a newdirector, Chris Weitz, for “New Moon” and lotted the release date for the sequel.

The second movie based on the vampire series by Stephenie Meyer will hit theaters on November 20, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Perhaps they’re superstitious, but that’s almost exactly a year to the
day after “Twilight” opened.

“Same time, same place,” said Richie Fay, the distribution head for Summit Entertainment. “If it’s also the same gross, we’ll be very pleased. Hopefully, we’ll have even better results.”

Twilight Bigger Than Dark Knight?

Twilight Was Bigger than Dark Knight?!
By Joal Ryan

If only Wall Street had bet on Twilight. Or Hannah Montana. Or Kirk Cameron.

With a $167.3 million overall domestic take as Sunday, per Box Office Mojo, Twilight made more than four times its reported $37 million production budget—the best rate of return on any film in the 2008
Top 10, including The Dark Knight.

The Batman epic was a pretty good investment, too, very nearly triplingits gargantuan $185 million budget with a $530.8 million domestic take,Hollywoods second-biggest ever.

Still, The Dark Knight was nothing compared to these off-the-charts performers: High School Musical 3: Senior Year ($89.7 million), which grossed about eight times its $11 million budget; the Hannah Montana
concert movie, which made about nine times its $7 million budget; and, Cameron’s Fireproof, which cost $500,000 to produce, and made $33.1 million—or, more than 60 times its budget.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT’S NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA, December 13, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that filmmaker Chris Weitz has been hired to direct the second film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise. The film, NEW MOON, is
based on the second book in author Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production.

Weitz, an Acadamy Award®-nominated writer, director and producer, has a proven track record working with a broad range of material dealing with youth-oriented characters, fantasy and action. As such, he has the potential to bring alive in NEW MOON the dimensions and depth that fans will demand in the next installment.

Feig stated, “We love Stephenie Meyer’s fantastic TWILIGHT series. Thinking long and hard about how to turn NEW MOON into the amazing movie we know it will be, and working with Stephenie Meyer to find the right candidate, we are thrilled to announce Chris Weitz as director of the film. “I am honored to have been entrusted with shepherding NEW MOON from the page to the screen,” said Weitz. “The extraordinary world that Stephenie has created has millions of fans, and it will be my duty to protect on their behalf the characters, themes and story they love. This is not a task to be taken lightly, and I will put every effort into realizing a beautiful film to stand alongside a beautiful book.”

Weitz previously penned ABOUT A BOY, which led to an Academy Award Nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2002, and adapted and directed THE GOLDEN COMPASS (2007), which was nominated for two Academy Awards and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Additionally, Weitz co-wrote the 1998 animated film ANTZ and went on to produce the major box office success AMERICAN PIE and executive produced the film’s two theatrical sequels. Weitz also produced IN GOOD COMPANY starring Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace and executive produced AMERICAN DREAMZ starring Hugh Grant, Dennis Quaid and Mandy Moore.
