MTV: Bree Tanner Cheat Sheet:Everything You Need To Know New ‘Twilight’ Novella

"The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner"Character provides insight into Victoria’s creation of vampire army in Seattle.

By Terri Schwartz

Oh my Edward. Stephenie Meyer has announced she is publishing a new book called “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” due in bookstores June 5 and available for free at BreeTanner.com from June 7 to July 5. The novella will act as something of a companion piece for the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” film. But it begs the question: Who exactly is Bree Tanner?

It seems a bit surprising that Meyer would choose to write a novella about a character who shows up for such a short period of time in the novels. Don’t worry about hauling out your copy of “Eclipse” to find the surprisingly few pages Tanner appears on, because we did all the dirty work for you. Here is a cheat sheet telling you everything you need to know about the short-lived Bree Tanner.

MTV: Splitting ‘Breaking Dawn’ Into Two Films Is Ok By Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene‘There’s so many different kinds of intertwining stories,’ the ‘Twilight’ star says of the saga’s final book.

One movie or two? That seems to be the big “Twilight” question these days for fans, who await a resolution to the unsettled matter whether “Breaking Dawn,” the final volume in Stephenie Meyer’s vampire book series, will be split into two parts for the big screen.

The franchise’s stars have weighed in on the debate too. Kristen Stewart told MTV News she’s keen for a two-picture finale. Nikki Reed said she’d also love the chance to take part in two films. Peter Facinelli thinks the idea would be “fantastic.” And now Ashley Greene has offered her opinion.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing it split up because the book is huge, and there’s so much that’s involved, and there’s so many different kinds of intertwining stories,” she told MTV News at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.

“The problem with changing books into film is that you don’t have time to tell this intricate story that you do in 700 pages of a book,” she added. “I don’t think it could hurt.”

MTV: Jackson Rathbone Wants ‘Zombie Stanley Kubrick’ To Direct ‘Breaking Dawn’

Jackson Rathbone‘Twilight’ actor also weighs in on whether ‘Breaking Dawn’ should be in 3-D.

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias

Should “Breaking Dawn” be in 3-D? While all the “Twilight” stars have their own opinions, with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart not really digging the idea, MTV News caught up with Jackson Rathbone to get his take.

“I think some films work in 3-D, and some films don’t,” he told MTV News on the orange carpet at the Kids’ Choice Awards over the weekend. “I don’t necessarily think it should be 3-D, but, hey, you know, it’s up for the production to decide.”

Rathbone also weighed in on who should direct the flick. There are several big names up for the job — including Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola, Bill Condon and Stephen Daldry — but Rathbone has his own idea. “I’m really pulling for them to resurrect Stanley Kubrick and have him helm the film,” he joked. “I’m really hoping for that. I want a zombie Stanley Kubrick to direct ‘Twilight 4.’ ”

MTV: Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ Novella ‘The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner’ Out In June

Stephanie MeyerStory of newborn vampire from ‘Eclipse’ is due out on June 5.

By Jocelyn Vena

To the surprise and delight of Twilighters everywhere, Stephenie Meyer announced on Tuesday (March 30) that she will be releasing a new “Twilight”-related book this June. On June 5, “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella” is expected to hit bookstores.

The 192-page book follows the story of Bree, a newborn vampire who appears briefly in “Eclipse” as a member of the army Victoria raises to fight the Cullens and the werewolves. Bree will be played by 14-year-old Jodelle Ferland in the upcoming “Eclipse” movie, out June 30.

“I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella,” Meyer said in a statement. “When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of ‘Eclipse,’ which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my Web site. Then, when work started on ‘The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide,’ I thought the ‘Guide’ would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the ‘Guide.’ ”

According to Little Brown Books for Young Readers, the book will be available at 12:01 a.m. on June 5, and $1 of from the sale of each book sold in the United States will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund helping victims of disasters in both Chile and Haiti.

MTV: ‘New Moon’ Sells Over 4 Million DVD’s In Opening Weekend

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in "New Moon" second installment of ‘The Twilight Saga’ tops first DVD by more than 200,000 units.

By Josh Wigler

As feverishly as moviegoers flocked to the initial “Twilight” film, fans devoted even more ticket sales to the theatrical release of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” in November of last year. Now, “New Moon” has bested its predecessor once again by selling just over 4 million DVD units during its debut weekend, a greater result than the 3.8 million “Twilight” DVDs initially sold in its first weekend on sale.

The increased number of DVD sales between the 2009 launch of “Twilight” and Friday’s release of “New Moon” owes no small thanks to the nationwide “New Moon at Midnight” event that Summit Entertainment helped to organize across 7,000 different American retail outlets. Several cast and crew members, including Peter Facinelli and director Chris Weitz, appeared at the various locations on Saturday, giving further cause for “New Moon” fans to make the late-night trek.

“Once again the incredibly dedicated fans of ‘The Twilight Saga’ came out in massive numbers this weekend for the opportunity to be one of the first [to] take home the second movie in the series,” said Summit Entertainment’s co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger in a joint statement. “As we have said all along, the fans are what make this franchise and we once again thank them for their support.”

By Michelle Tauber

Team Jacob, hold on to your sleeping bags.

Chris Weitz, who directed New Moon, the second installment in the Twilight series, says he has read the script for this summer’s third installment, Eclipse – and that one scene in particular is a scorcher.

“I’m looking forward to the sleeping bag scene, I gotta say,” Weitz tells PEOPLE. “That’s going to be very steamy.”

In Eclipse’s fan-favorite “tent scene,” – spoiler alert! – a freezing Bella, who is on the run from evil vamp Victoria, gets a warm-up from werewolf Jacob when he squeezes into her sleeping bag – while a jealous Edward looks on. The movie will open June 30.

Weitz also says he is eager to see Edward’s vampire “parents,” played by Elizabeth Reaser and Peter Facinelli, sink their teeth into Eclipse’s more intense action.
